AUDIO

LuMIDi / tmu nma thesiS (2026-present)

The LuMIDI is an audio-visual instrument that transforms movement into reactive sound and illuminated visuals. This project explores the relationship our bodies share with technology, data, and performance.

Inspired by gesture-based instruments like the theremin, the LuMIDI system is a modular controller that converts physical movement into MIDI information and serial data. The sensors send this data through an Arduino Leonardo, where it is processed. TF Luna laser distance sensors are the magic behind the LuMIDI. The height data from these sensors is read from the user's hand. Additional knobs and buttons on the instrument face can also influence the sound and projection generated in real time. Creating a responsive environment where light and sound integrate with the performer's gesture.

The Arduino converts the sensor information to MIDI and serial, used to manipulate audio in Ableton Live while simultaneously generating reactive visuals in TouchDesigner. User data and distance information evolve as the performer moves, allowing the body's movement to compose an ever-changing audiovisual experience.

The instrument is designed to house the electronics with a fully transparent acrylic structure, designed with AutoCAD modeling software and fabricated through CNC milling. The clear casing exposes the circuitry and pathways of data, emphasizing craftsmanship and the technological process behind the interaction. A detachable sheer projection screen allows for flexibility and modular setup options while preserving the view between performer, interaction, and audience. Allowing the generated visuals and sounds to meet the performer in the interaction, seamlessly merging with their movement paths.

SHOCK COLLAR (2025)

Shock Collar is a song I wrote, recorded, and mixed. This song intends to explore cycles of self-inflicted harm, compulsion, and running back to a familiar thing even though it hurts. This song is sung from a third-person perspective, through the metaphor of a dog repeatedly running into an electric fence to reflect the cause and effect. The song was designed to be restrained yet immersive to the listener. The song blends layers of distorted piano, strings, and vocals, with additional sound design and textural elements that bring you into the world the song builds. The layers clash together, lingering in patterns of eerie repetition itself, allowing the listener to inhabit this emotional space of inevitability, longing, and self-betrayal.

HAND TRACKED OSCILLATOR (2025)

To challenge myself to learn more Touchdesigner I wanted to try out hand tracking.

Using Media Pipe to manipulate an oscillator. I used the data from the tip of my finger, using the y axis for pitch control and using the x axis to control the rate of an LFO connected to my oscillator. For some visual feedback I used the sound data and Media Pipe to create a colourful visual and layered it with live camera input I also added effects to.

THE FAIRY GRADEN (2024)

The Fairy Garden is an immersive audio project using Pro Tools and Reaper to create a magical world of sound around the listener.

The Fairy Garden was designed to be the auditory backdrop of a community of little fairies who live in a garden. I was inspired by my own childhood nostaligia and aimed to take myself back to the fairy games and movies I loved as a child. I used a number of whimsical foley elements that are minipulated in the space throughout the mix ontop of a soundtrack of soft pads.

SONG STEP (2024)

Song Step is a digital space designed with audio interactivity made with Unreal Engine and Protools.

I wanted to be able to trigger different layers of a mix of a song I made by walking through different steps using box colliders to trigger the raising of the volume of each layer as the player walks through the boxes of the rainbow. Each layer of the mix begins when the player spawns and they continue to play in sync in a loop.
