Moonrays On Water is an audio visual installation where I created a space utilizing projection mapping, lighting and sound to immerse people into water under the moon. Designing the physical space I wanted the centrepiece to be a large moon sculpture taking up most of the back wall, paired with smaller fish sculptures throughout the room. The largest sculpture having a diameter of 6’2″ I knew I had to make these sculptures as light as possible. I chose to make them with cardboard, paper mache, tape, wire and recycled materials to achieve this. To light the space I used three projectors mounted throughout the room and two effect lights. To create the projections I animated shillouette’s of the fish sculptures and distorted layers of water texture, in Resolume Arena my mapping software I also manipulated the level of each layer in relation to the level and pitch of sound in the room. For the sound scape I used Ableton to create groups of layers using environmental sounds, my voice and digital synth. I took these layers also manipulating them based off of the rooms audio feedback so that the audio and visual is ever changing, not a continuous loop and flows with the room.
